Southern Missouri Arts Connection (SMAC) is a thriving hub for artists in the Ozarks. It has become a haven of opportunity and belonging for one local artist living with schizoaffective disorder. Through figure drawing classes, community events, and exhibitions, SMAC has provided an environment where these artists has not only honed their craft but also built meaningful relationships and achieved remarkable success.
“Social situations can be challenging for me because of my condition, but everyone here has been so kind. At SMAC, I’ve found more than an art gallery, I’ve found a supportive community.” says Mormo Zine.
Through the gallery’s resources, Mormo submitted ten pieces to a recent exhibition. To their amazement, a collector purchased all ten pieces, marking a milestone in their creative journey. This accomplishment not only provides an income boost but also serves as a testament to the power of inclusivity and art’s ability to transcend challenges."
SMAC offers a variety of classes, workshops, and opportunities for artists to showcase their work, making it an integral part of the local art scene. By fostering an environment of acceptance and creativity, SMAC enables individuals from all walks of life to thrive.
"Art has given me a way to connect with others and feel like I’m part of something bigger."
As I continue to grow both personally and professionally, my story underscores SMAC’s mission of cultivating creativity and community.
